better to have softer wheels or harder, and what do like the numbers mean on the durometer mean

softer wheels give more grip but wear down faster harder wheels give less grip but last longer and the numbers liek this 55/90 55 is the size of the wheel and 90 is the durometer how hard it is the higher the number the harder the wheel

Also, if you are riding flat-rocker you can run smaller, softer wheels without much worries. Anti-rocker or freestyle setups normally need larger, harder wheels.
what are Anti-rocker or freestyle setups

Anti-rocker is when you have smaller harder wheels in the 2nd and 3rd wheel slots and freestyle is when you have no wheels in the 2nd and 3rd wheels stops. Both of these setups give you more grind space and help when grinding.

What I never understood was why bother doing Anti when you're not even rolling on them?

What I never understood was why bother doing Anti when you're not even rolling on them?
Anti-rockers help to make your h-block bigger in a sense and they also help to protect the frames. Overall anti in my opinion is way better than freestyle.
