You should always stretch before and after you skate, however nobody does this. Just do basic warm-up stretches. Look up a fitness website and look for a basic warm-up exercise and that should be sufficient.

charlie horse is when you get sharp pains or cramps in your calves right?

Ya, it feels like your muscle pulls as tight as it can and completely locks up regardless of what you do with it. Its one of the most painful things you can do to a muscle without cutting it. I remember one night I came home after a session and stretched out my legs on the bed. Boom, I got pegged by one and I rolled off the bed in pain waiting for my right calf to unlock so I could DO something with it

Yeah that's not fun.
But stretching is always a good idea. Even if you're not about to roll, doing it regularly can loosen up your muscles so you're less likely to pull one or get some other kind of muscle injury.

cramps is your body also telling you that you are DEHYDRATED!!!
just drink water, a little salt too
salt helps you retain moisture, and produce sweat...
believe me, i've stuided it and seen it in action, i never get cramps anymore

Salt dehydrates things, hence why you shouldnt drink sea water.
Peanuts are a good source for energy, for potassium you want to eat banannas.

sea water is just a high concentraition for salt, so thats why you dont drink it
plus the salt we have has otherstuff, all i know is it helps retain water...

Yeah you should get some salt because it holds more water for you. The problem is if you go overboard on it. But having some is good.
Main point- Water's important too. Just like stretching is.

1. powerade sucks ass its made my coke, so its just sugar water.
2. gatorade helps just take out 1/4 of the gatorade and add water its better 4 u that way cause the water is absorbed better.
3. stretch ur hamstrings and quads, calfs and dont forget ur groin.

4. stretch helps increase bloodflow(which helps prevents soreness and muscles perform longer) and a better range of motion which helps with jumping and just skating period.
5. if u get cramps drink ICE COLD water that will help get rid of them. take like a 20min break while drinking the water.
6. one more thing dont forget 2 stretch after skatin cause ur muscle r tight afterwards this prevents soreness even more.
