Default Cleaning bearings

Do any of you have some tips for cleaning bearings? Are there any other options besides buying bearing cleaners or can I make my own cleaner?

Here's a little how to that might help:

A few things you'll need are a shallow basin, some bearing cleaner (you can substitute this for some kind of citric cleaner or some WD40), some bearing lube (WD40 works fine here also), a clean rag, and a "dirty" rag.

- First what you want to do is fill the basin with whatever you're using to clean the bearings with (If you're using WD40 just spray the unshielded bearings out).

-Second, you want to remove the shields from the bearings. I have never done this on bearings without a rubber shield so I couldn't tell you how to do it (It seemed like a waste of time to me, I just put them in a tub of lube or sprayed them out with WD40).

-Third, wipe off whatever you can with the "dirty" rag.

-Fourth, place the bearings in the cleaner and spin them in there to get the gunk out. After a little while you can let them sit in there for a little while.

-Fifth, wipe out the bearings with the clean rag and re-lub them. Try to spread the lube evenly and then spin the bearings again to get it to spread itself throughout the bearing.

-Sixth, put the shields back in and spin away once more.

That's basically it, just put them back into the wheels with the appropriate spacers and you're golden. Hope this helped, have fun and be safe.

If they're abec style bearings with a c-clip, forget it. I promise you it is not worth the pain and effort. If it's a rubber shield, it is much easier.

Craps don't have an abec rating and use the rubber seal.

lol you can get WD40 anywhere, it's the universal solution to anything. I've even seen it in the supermarket, walmart will have it for sure.

Default Cleaning bearings

Run Abec #7s all stainless even though anything over abec 3 all stainless would do.

We tend to over think bearings in centerpins. There are other factors that affect startup that are much more important than bearing classes or types.

Whatever you do just make sure you lube them after cleaning or they will rust.
