Default Bauer Vapor RX25 Tongue

I just picked up a pair of Junior RX25's for my son and was a little surprised by the tongue that Bauer put on these skates. His former inline skates were Mission Assassins, and he skates in Bauer Vapor XXXX's on ice. Both have tongues that seem considerably more durable and protective.

Does anyone here use these skates right now? If so, has the thinness of the tongue caused any problems for you? Lace bite? Injury from being hit by a puck, etc.?

Thanks for your help!!
