I assume you've fallen in love with the Rocket Runners in the same way that I have. Great blades, eh?

Yeah....they are a great piece of steel. Very hard, holds an edge very well, and of course them being so light doesn't hurt anything.

Agreed on all fronts. I even went out of my way to put them on my backup 5k's which almost never see the ice.

However, my LHS owner let me in on a bit of bad news for future U+ skate owners: the next generation U+'s will NOT come with the Rocket Runner as their stock blades. I asked him why this was the case and he told me that it wasn't due to a quality issue at all. Rather, because these blades require some special adjustments when being sharpened, it's not practical for upper tier teams or the other high-level players to have these to sharpen along with standard blades, especially when this needs to be done quickly.

The good news is that CCM isn't discontinuing them, so people who like them or would like to try them out don't have to fear them going away any time soon.

That information from your LHS owner is inaccurate.

Reps were shown the new skates that weren't paired with RR steel. It's not going to be the case when they ship.

loving the reps recently, seems to be a new rash of them popping up in my area. Catalog shows RR still there for U+. Between that and the Warrior rep saying there's no warranty on any sticks below the Dolo it's been fun lately

Wow - I just downloaded the 2009 catalog from MSH and saw exactly what you just said. Gotta wonder how the rumor got spread around far and wide that RR's wouldn't be on this year's U+. Did someone at corporate just make it up and start spreading it as fact? You would hope the reps would have the best info, but clearly that's not the case.

Reps aren't typically the most informed guys, it's not their fault but they are typically the last to know.

Got a nice deal for these on eBay, was afraid they wouldn't fit me but after a bake and a skate they are like gloves and I've never had ankle support like this before. And the swiss bearings are super fast. I love the chassis too, gives me much more explosiveness IMO than my old HiLo 80/72

hi, I have a question for you regarding the size and fit so here it goes....

What type of fit, i.e. narrow low profile or wide high profile?
What's your shoe size and what size skates did you get?

Regards,
Nelson

Well I had always thought I had a pretty wide forefoot but a thinner ankle.

I fit perfectly into Vapors in a size 9.5, and I wear a size 10.5-11 shoe depending on the brand...the toe box area is a little on the smaller side but I give myself extra forefoot room by skipping the bottom eyelet and have no comfort problems. They are a narrow low profile skate and the boot is about 6.5" deep at the heel. These fit snug like a glove but I only pull them tight enough around the foot to be flush with the skate, since I have a wider foot I would recommend not pulling too tight or else you could cramp up.

The real magic IMO is in the ankles, since it has GREAT padding and is really stiff, the thermo pads conformed perfect with a bake and it is a very stiff skate, stiffer than the old Proto models but not as stiff as the older Wickeds. These are in a size 9d and I literally have no slop or extra room, but they are not too tight as to cause me any discomfort. I always leave foot lacing gently snug, and then starting at the 3rd eyelet from the top tightening hard for support.

If you would like I can take a picture of my feet in them, or of my foot with my insole so you can get an idea and send it to you. I also use superfeet which I feel give me a much better fit than the stock insoles and I backlace which gives a little more volume.

hope this answers all your questions.

Old picture. The U+ Pro and 09 will have RR. 07 and 05 have "Proformance lite" steel.
